Inside Passage

Original Music & Images by Richard Olsenius

This thousand-mile coastal journey follows forested coves and mountainous fjords along the famed Passage from Puget Sound north to Alaska's Glacier Bay. With whales, eagles and waterfowl as your companions, discover the majesty and solitude that exists where the land and ocean meet in this wild stretch of country.

There are few places on earth that can match the Inside Passage for scenic beauty, wilderness and adventure. I was stunned by the constant play of light on the water and sky, the changing shades of color, the spectacular mornings, the ever-changing light at sunset, and the intense and varied shades of green among the forests.

Passages

In everyone's life there is a need for one great journey, a journey that can help us see beyond the immediate daily things that occupy our lives to focus on the beauty and majesty of the bigger world around us. This was my journey.

Waiting for
the Snow

We began our journey early in the year, April, so the snow pack was melting and waterfalls along the coast were running at full speed. The Inside Passage is inter-linked with large open stretches of ocean and fjords that cling to the Pacific coastal range. But the weather this year was kind, with mirror flat calms that made for stunning reflections. It was like boating into a kaleidoscope.
