Guatemala
Land of Maya
I flew by helicopter from Guatemala City to Lake Atitlan along the Central American Volcanic Arc. I could see active volcanoes run off into the far horizon. These form the most eastern edge of the Pacific’s “Ring of Fire.” The steep volcanoes that ring Lake Atitlan, push up the moist lowland air and are home to some of the world’s great cloud formations. But no trip to this region can be made without going to the nearby Mayan city of Chichicastenango which sits on the crest of mountaintops at nearly 6,500 feet. Music and Video ©2020 Richard Olsenius
