Mombacho

Located on the shore of Lake Nicaragua and not far from the picturesque town of Granada, rises the magnificent volcano of Mombacho. Today, the volcano is quiet with only a few fumaroles spewing small plumes of sulfuric smoke to remind us that it is still alive. We drove up to the top on a narrow switch-back road and along the way stopped at a coffee plantation.  It was a Sunday I believe and most were taking it easy except for a few workers.  As we continued on to the very top, we entered the cloud forest where many plant and animal species exist in this unique climate.
