Ascent to Kuelap

Explore the ancient walled city pf Kuelap built roughly 1,500 years ago on a 9,800-foot mountain ridge overlooking the Utcubamba River Valley in Peru’s southern region of Amazonas.

 

Kuelap Sunrise

Once home to 5,000 members of the Chachapoyas culture - the Cloud Warriors, as they were called, built 30 - 60-feet high walls using finely-worked masonry of limestone. The ruins include 400 stone houses stretched across the mountain. To stand by the ruins at sunrise is to stand above the clouds at the top of the world
